Naweed Hussain the Development Manager and Emma Bonfield a Youth Worker who works for Emerge and works in partnership with The Feast in Bradford were invited to attend the fifth annual ‘Breathe Deep’ day on Saturday 27 January 2018.
Breathe Deep is a youth event targeted at Christian young people aged 11-18 years old from all over the Sheffield diocese. Many of the 320 young Christians and leaders that attended were from smaller churches, so to gather in large numbers brought another important dimension of God’s church, in all its diversity!
It was Bishop Pete’s first Breathe Deep as Bishop of Sheffield, and he spoke to us all about the importance of being ‘Differently, the same’ – looking at how God has made us all, and all that we share as human beings as creations of God, loved by him and in need of his forgiveness. But he has also made us different – unique, from different backgrounds and able to make different choices.
The Feast ran two workshops on how young people can discuss these matters using the ‘Guidelines for Dialogue’ and how they can learn from those with different faith from their own – how we don’t need to be afraid, or hateful towards others, but can live alongside people who are different from ourselves, learn from them and love them. The day was full of worship, teaching, thinking, chilling, playing, laughing, praying together and encouragement for young people to engage in friendships with those of other faiths.
The Feast would especially like to thank Mike North, Children and Young Peoples Adviser and his team for inviting The Feast to contribute to this event and for making us feel so welcome, thank you.
