Building Bridges - Luton

This BLCF funded project brought together teenagers from the Muslim, Sikh and Christian faith, as well as some teenagers from the Roma Community.

We met 4 times at various points in the year. At each encounter, we enjoyed a different activity together – we went bowling, trampolining, and mini-golfing.

One of the most interesting aspects of the project was visiting different places of worship. The group visited St Mary’s Church, Central Mosque and the Guru Nanak Gurdwara.

At each encounter we also built in time for conversation with one another. The young people found out more about each other’s faiths and ways of doing things. They discovered some unexpected similarities and learnt to take an interest in the points where they differed from each other.

The impact?
This is what the young people said:

“I spoke to people I normally wouldn’t have and learnt more about them whilst having fun.”

“I feel more confident speaking about my own beliefs and learning about other people’s.”

“I learnt to be more confident when talking to people who are different to me.”

“In the first session I wasn’t talking to anyone. Now in the fourth session, I can speak to everyone openly.”
